114th Congress

August 14, 2015

The world cannot permit Iran to have a nuclear weapon. As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I am keenly aware of the threat Iran poses to the United States and our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel. Next month, Congress will vote on the Iran nuclear agreement, an effort to prevent one of the world's most evil regimes from having the world's most dangerous weapon.

Dear Friend,

You deserve a Member of Congress who listens to you at home and stands up for you in Washington, DC. Last week, I proudly stood up for you and voted AGAINST giving the President fast-track trade authority. I support trade, but like you, believe Congress has an important role to play to make sure the President puts American workers first.

Dear Friend,

Graduation is a momentous opportunity for students and families to celebrate their accomplishments and embark on the next chapter of their lives. Recently, I gave the commencement speech at Las Positas College in Livermore and saw many bright students ready and eager to solve some of our biggest problems. However, the cost of higher education for many students will be a significant burden for years to come.

Dear Friend,

As your Representative in Congress, my most important job is listening to you at home and working on your behalf in Washington, DC. Please join me this Saturday in Pleasanton, where I will be hosting a Congress on your Corner at the Pleasanton Farmer's Market.

Dear Friend,

Our online accounts are under attack. You've likely heard of the Anthem data breach earlier this year, which exposed the personal information and health records of 80 million Americans, including 13.5 million Californians. Anthem is not alone; corporations from Sony to Target and even U.S. government agencies have fallen victim to cyber attacks. According to CNBC, U.S. companies experienced a 40 percent increase in cyber attacks last year.

Dear Friend,

Here in the East Bay, we live in the heart of American innovation. Our area is a shining pillar of technology and new ideas, where some of the greatest minds in the world live. But, unfortunately, our education system is failing the next generation of American innovators.

I believe the road back to the top starts in our schools and with our youth. Promoting science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education in schools and STEM career training in the work place is critical to the success of all Americans in today's innovation economy.

Dear Friend,

We need your input! Today, my colleagues and I launched the Future Forum, a group of 14 young Democratic Members of Congress focused on issues and opportunities for millennial Americans.

We're starting with a national listening tour with stops in New York City, Boston, and San Francisco. I know that we can't talk about millennials; we need to be listening to millennials. That's why we are crowdsourcing stories and ideas via social media and through the website Medium.

Dear Friend,

Last week we celebrated an extraordinary moment of bipartisanship that will improve the health of children, working families, and seniors. On March 26, 2015 the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed H.R. 2, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, by a vote of 392 – 37. Representatives from all over the country worked across the aisle to ensure that seniors have enough doctors who accept Medicare and that doctors are reimbursed based on standards of quality and performance.

Dear Friend,

This past week I travelled to Iraq with colleagues on the House Committee on Intelligence to spend time with our troops and meet with top military commanders for an update on our efforts to defeat the Islamic State of the Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Frankly, the best part of the trip was Easter Sunday brunch with the troops.
