My NO Vote on Fast-Track

Dear Friend,

You deserve a Member of Congress who listens to you at home and stands up for you in Washington, DC.  Last week, I proudly stood up for you and voted AGAINST giving the President fast-track trade authority.  I support trade, but like you, believe Congress has an important role to play to make sure the President puts American workers first.

Fast-track authority would hand over Congress’ important role in regulating overseas commerce.  This authority would allow the President to negotiate trade agreements, without meaningful congressional input, that would be approved by an up or down vote in Congress.  In this case, Congress would not be allowed to amend a trade agreement or return it to the President with instructions that would enforce labor standards, protect the environment, and prevent currency manipulation.

My vote was a vote for hardworking Americans, and it expresses my strong commitment to protecting American jobs.  I will continue to fight on your behalf as Congress continues to debate trade agreements and the role Congress must play.

As always, it is an honor to represent you in the U.S. Congress.  Visit my website or contact my East Bay offices at 510-370-3322 or 925-460-5100 if we can be of service in any way.
