114th Congress
Dear Friend,
California is entering our fourth year of drought. Communities have come together to cut their water consumption, but conservation alone can only take us so far and our state risks severe water shortages if more is not done soon. As state officials consider tougher water restrictions, the Tri-Valley is being proactive.
Dear Friend,
This Sunday, I'll be hosting a Coffee With Your Congressman at Devout Coffee at 10:00 AM to hear about what issues are important to you, talk about how my office can be of service, and of course, sample some home-roasted, locally-brewed coffee.
As Congress debates important matters from creating jobs to education to health care, it is imperative that I hear from you about these issues. Please join me this Sunday for coffee and conversation.
Dear Friend,
The first two months of my second term have been a whirlwind! From being appointed to House Intelligence Committee to joining President Obama on Air Force One, 2015 is off to a running start. As I continue representing you in Washington, DC, working toward keeping our nation safe, and ensuring security for our middle class, it is important for me to hear what is important to YOU!
Dear Friend,
While the deficit is on the decline, it remains a national challenge that we have to address head on. That's why I am leading the bipartisan SAVE Act to cut approximately $479 billion in government spending over 10 years by rooting out waste and improving government efficiency. For example, the legislation would save billions by consolidating federal data and requiring federal agencies to implement energy efficiency initiatives. The bill does not cut important programs that invest in our future or serve as part of our safety net.
Dear Friend,
Tonight, the nation will gather to listen to President Barack Obama deliver his annual State of the Union address. Attending as my guest is Mohammad Usafi, an Afghan translator who served alongside U.S. troops in Afghanistan. As Mohammad and I listen to the President address the nation from the floor of the House of Representatives, Mohammad's family will be watching alongside Adrian Kinsella (Cpt. USMC), who served with Mohammad in Afghanistan, and members of the local Afghan community at De Afghanan Cuisine in Fremont.
Dear Friend,
In case you missed it, I want to share with you a recent San Francisco Chronicle article about my successful efforts to work across the aisle and get results for you during my first term in Congress:
Dear Friend,
As I wrap up my freshman term in Congress, I want to thank you for providing me the honor of serving our community. I'm proud of our accomplishments over the past year and am always grateful to work with you to advance policies that will grow opportunity for the middle class and our economy, ensure security at home and abroad, and promote equality for all people.
Some of our 2014 highlights include:
Dear Friend,
As you may know, two nurses in Dallas have now been diagnosed with Ebola, as thousands more in West Africa have died of the disease. I wanted to provide you with an update on Ebola and how I am working with our local hospitals to ensure we are prepared to isolate, treat, and manage this disease should there be an Ebola patient in the East Bay. First, let's bust a major myth: Ebola is NOT airborne and can only be contracted through direct contact with bodily fluids.
Dear Friend,
I want to update you on developments related to the growing threat of ISIL, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. As I wrote to you last week, I believe ISIL is a serious threat to the Middle East and, potentially, our homeland.
To defeat ISIL, I support airstrikes and building a real coalition with Middle Eastern allies who stand up for their countries' security.
