114th Congress
Are you a veteran or know someone who is? On Saturday, July 27 I'm hosting a forum with the Alameda County Veteran Services Office (ACVSO) for veterans to learn more about the benefits offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and how to apply for a claim.
Veterans who fought for our country should not have to fight for their benefits when they return home. At this forum, my staff and representatives from ACVSO will instruct veterans who have not yet made a claim with the VA on how to properly file a claim and easily navigate the claims process.
Dear Friend,
As a staunch advocate for comprehensive immigration reform, there are some important developments taking place in Washington that I want to share with you.
This week, the Senate passed comprehensive immigration legislation. I support the Senate's bipartisan bill, which provides a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living and working in our country, secures our borders and allows high-skilled workers educated in the U.S. to stay here, innovate here, and contribute to our economy.
Dear Friend,
Unless Congress acts, on July 1 interest rates on need-based federal Stafford student loans will double, from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent. I am fighting to block the July rate hike so higher education and the middle class remains within reach for our nation's students. College should not be just for the privileged few, but an opportunity for all those with skill and determination.
Dear Friend,
As your Member of Congress, my most important job is listening to you and advocating for policies that will benefit you and our community. For example, last week I was honored to introduce my first bill, H.R. 952, the Main Street Revival Act.
