114th Congress
Dear Friend,
Last week, in celebration of Read Across America Day, I read to Ms. Cano's third grade class at Vannoy Elementary School in Castro Valley.
I wish I could have joined them in person, but because I was voting in DC, I read "Clifford Goes to Washington" via Skype from my office on Capitol Hill. It was fun to see these bright students in action; they had great questions and demonstrated a love for learning.
Dear Friend,
We owe our military the very best care our nation can provide. I am working every day to provide meaningful support to those that have sacrificed so much for our country.
Like many of you, I was deeply concerned that the recent budget cuts benefits for some military retirees. While we must be fiscally responsible, we also have to live up to the promises we made to our veterans. I voted to repeal the cut to the benefits for veterans and current service members.
Dear Friend,
Congress is coming to you! Join me this Saturday, March 1, at Southland Mall in Hayward. My staff and I will be available to answer your questions about the issues being debated in Congress and talk about how our office can be of service to you.
Congress on your Corner with Rep. Eric Swalwell

Dear Friend,
Tomorrow, the XXII Olympic Winter Games begin in Sochi, Russia. While I wish the athletes good luck in the competition, the host country's record on the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons (LGBT) is deeply troubling.
Dear Friend,
Last month, Congress passed a federal budget for fiscal year 2014. This bipartisan budget was far from perfect, but it provides us with certainty about federal spending and sets nationwide priorities for the upcoming year.
Dear Friend,
On December 28, roughly 1.3 million American workers lost crucial unemployment insurance benefits – cutting off a vital lifeline families rely on to make ends meet while they look for a job.
I sent three letters urging House Speaker Boehner to allow a vote to extend unemployment benefits. It is the right thing to do for millions of Americans who are trying to support their families, and it is the right thing to do for our economy. As your representative in Congress, I want to hear from you on this issue.
Dear Friend,
It has been a true honor representing you this past year in the United States Congress. I wanted to share with you a brief recap of my first year in Congress by the numbers. Some highlights include:
Dear Friend,
I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a happy holiday season and a joyful new year!
When I was elected as your Representative, I promised to listen to you at home in the East Bay and work for you in Washington. This past weekend, I helped out at Morning Glory Farm Christmas Trees in Dublin as part of my "In Your Shoes" program, where I perform a different job each month to connect with employers, employees, and community members alike.
Dear Friend,
Tomorrow is the last day seniors can sign up for a Medicare health plan for this upcoming year. Please note, if you are covered by Medicare, you do not need to enroll in the Covered California Marketplace created by the new health care law. However, since Medicare plans may change annually, you may want to evaluate your health plan and prescription coverage for 2014 before Saturday's deadline.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is considering allowing passengers to talk on their cellphones on planes while in flight. It seems like a bad idea to me and I have concerns, but as your representative in Congress I want to hear from you. Fill out the survey below to let me know whether you want cell phone calls allowed on planes.
