Your Thoughts on Student Loans?

Dear Friend,

Unless Congress acts, on July 1 interest rates on need-based federal Stafford student loans will double, from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent. I am fighting to block the July rate hike so higher education and the middle class remains within reach for our nation's students. College should not be just for the privileged few, but an opportunity for all those with skill and determination.

To learn more about the student loan issue, I shadowed the Executive Director of Financial Aid at California State University, East Bay and held a roundtable with students at the university. We discussed their experiences with financial aid and ways we can improve our system to make college more affordable and accessible.
