Marcy Kaptur (OH-9), Ranking Member of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, is touring the Lawrence Livermore and Sandia National Laboratories in California, located in Congressman Swalwell's district. The visit is part of a fact-finding tour of federally-funded research and development centers and other federal installations in the western United States.

"The National Security Agency is critical to protecting our country from terrorism, but I strongly believe we can still gather information on terrorists without invading the privacy of innocent Americans.
Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today introduced an amendment at a Transportation Security Subcommittee markup of H.R. 2719, the Transportation Security Acquisition Reform Act, a bill that forces the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to better analyze and plan what is needed for transportation security equipment, justify its purchases and submit all of this information to Congress. Rep. Swalwell's amendment would require TSA to also ensure equipment purchased is secured against cyber theft and threats. The amendment passed by a voice vote.
