HAYWARD, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced that the Hayward Coalition for Healthy Youth and Ashland Cherryland Violence Prevention Collaborative will each receive a federal Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grant worth $125,000 per year for five years. The grants will fund their respective efforts to reduce youth substance use and are administered by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today released the following statement after voting for H.R. 2397, the Amash/Conyers amendment to the 2014 Defense Appropriations bill that would limit the National Security Agency's (NSA) surveillance program which collects data on personal phone records:
"The National Security Agency is critical to protecting our country from terrorism, but I strongly believe we can still gather information on terrorists without invading the privacy of innocent Americans.
Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today introduced an amendment at a Transportation Security Subcommittee markup of H.R. 2719, the Transportation Security Acquisition Reform Act, a bill that forces the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to better analyze and plan what is needed for transportation security equipment, justify its purchases and submit all of this information to Congress. Rep. Swalwell's amendment would require TSA to also ensure equipment purchased is secured against cyber theft and threats. The amendment passed by a voice vote.
