WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today passed an amendment in the Committee on Homeland Security to direct the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to take a broader approach in its cybersecurity workforce recruitment. Currently, DHS focuses its cyber recruitment and training strategy on students, recent graduates, and existing DHS employees, but Swalwell's amendment urges DHS to expand its recruitment pool to include other populations including veterans and mid-career professionals.

LIVERMORE, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) released the following statement after Dr. Parney Albright, director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), announced he will be stepping down at the end of October. LLNL, a Department of Energy National Laboratory, is the largest employer in Rep. Swalwell's Congressional District.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) led a statement signed by a total of 16 Members of the bipartisan, freshman United Solutions Caucus in support of the Reid/McConnell plan to end the government shutdown and avoid default. Since the shutdown began, the United Solutions Caucus has met almost every day to engage in bipartisan discussions on possible solutions to the crisis. The statement is below:

LIVERMORE, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) on Sunday held a town hall in Livermore to hear from employees of Lawrence Livermore and Sandia National Laboratories, Department of Energy (DOE) labs where 7,500 workers will be furloughed starting on Oct. 18 if the government shutdown continues. Rep. Swalwell assured the more than 200 national lab employees in attendance that he will continue to fight to end the reckless shutdown.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell (CA-15), Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and nine additional Members of the California Congressional Delegation today sent a bipartisan letter to Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Ernest Moniz requesting back pay for furloughed DOE national laboratory employees.

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced he will be sending a letter urging Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Ernest Moniz to work with the White House to allow DOE national laboratories to provide their employees back pay once the federal government reopens. More than 13,000 national lab employees in the Bay Area, who are government contractors, are at risk of being furloughed if the shutdown continues. The House of Representatives has already taken action to provide back pay to federal workers who are furloughed due to the unnecessary shutdown.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today called on Speaker Boehner on the House Floor to end the damaging government shutdown that is hurting East Bay residents and Americans around the country. Rep. Swalwell implored his colleagues across the aisle to consider the pain and anxiety they are causing federal employees and contractors, many of whom live in Rep. Swalwell's district and attended his town hall in Dublin this Sunday to express their frustration about the ongoing shutdown.

DUBLIN, CA – With Congress adjourned on Sunday, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) flew home and hosted a town hall in Dublin to provide an update on the reckless federal government shutdown and hear from constituents. The town hall was held at the Dublin City Council Chambers and was attended by more than 150 concerned East Bay constituents, including many furloughed federal employees.
