HAYWARD, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today congratulated Jensen Ranch Elementary School in Castro Valley for being named a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School by the Department of Education. Just 15 schools in California received this award.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today sent a letter to the President of BART's Board of Directors to express his strong support for BART's proposed Livermore extension after BART reaffirmed it would prepare an environmental impact report (EIR) for the project. A Livermore extension would add 4.8 miles of rail to the BART System along I-580. Rep. Swalwell represents the city of Livermore in the U.S. Congress.

Today welcomed Bishop Jerry W. Macklin to the U.S. Capitol to serve as guest chaplain and deliver the opening prayer on the House Floor. Bishop Macklin is the leader of Glad Tidings Church in Hayward, California, where he has served as Bishop since 1978. Following the prayer, Rep. Swalwell gave an address on the House Floor recognizing Bishop Macklin and thanking him for his inspirational words.

HAYWARD, CA – Congressman Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced that the Hayward Police Department will receive a three-year federal Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant to hire two School Resource Officers (SROs). The SROs will help Hayward improve school safety and address youth gang violence. In July, Rep. Swalwell sent a letter to the director of the COPS program in support of Hayward's application for a grant. The COPS grants are administered by the U.S. Department of Justice.

HAYWARD, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced that the Hayward Coalition for Healthy Youth and Ashland Cherryland Violence Prevention Collaborative will each receive a federal Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grant worth $125,000 per year for five years. The grants will fund their respective efforts to reduce youth substance use and are administered by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.
