Rep. Swalwell to help DREAMers apply for deferred action at Hayward workshop
HAYWARD, CA – On Saturday, July 13 from 9 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) will host a presentation and workshop for DREAMers, undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, to learn about and apply for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). DACA, a Department of Homeland Security program, removes the threat of deportation for DREAMers who meet certain requirements.
Rep. Swalwell, a Member of the Homeland Security Committee, will be joined at the event by representatives from an East Bay community organization, immigration attorneys and young immigrants benefitting from DACA for a presentation about the program. Following the presentation and Q&A session there will be a DACA application workshop in a nearby computer lab for those interested.
An individual who is given DACA status by the Department of Homeland Security is considered a low priority for immigration enforcement. Since the program was implemented one year ago, more than 300,000 applicants have been approved for deferred action. As a Member of Congress, Rep. Swalwell has continually voiced his support a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, the DREAM Act, and comprehensive immigration reform.
