HAYWARD, CA – Today, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) took on the job of a student financial aid officer as part of his monthly "In Your Shoes" program and held a roundtable with students on financial aid issues at California State University, East Bay to stress the need to stop student loan interest rates from doubling on July 1. Unless Congress acts the interest rates on need-based student loans will rise from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent, which will increase costs for seven million students nationwide.

As a new Member of Congress, few experiences have been as moving as visiting Marine Staff Sergeant Jason Ross of Livermore as he recovered at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Sergeant Ross lost his legs from an I.E.D. explosion while honorably serving in Afghanistan. His service and subsequent rehabilitation journey is a poignant reminder of the lifelong sacrifice of our brave men and women in uniform.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today co-sponsored H.R. 1999, the bipartisan Savings, Accountability, Value and Efficiency (SAVE) Act. The legislation cuts up to approximately $200 billion in wasteful government spending over the next 10 years by eliminating duplication and increasing efficiency.

Leading up to the most recent elections this past fall, a small-time Dublin prosecutor in his early 30s, named Eric Swalwell made national headlines as he waged an aggressive battle to unseat a once-beloved 20-term member of Congress, Pete Stark.

Come Nov. 6, 2012, Swalwell was successful - the young upstart beat the outspoken and aging liberal Stark, who had overseen the Fremont area for 40 years from the Hill.

Fast forward to today and Congressman Swalwell is now making his way as a freshman member of Congress.

He feels he has finally landed.

HAYWARD, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced that Porifera, Inc. in Hayward, located in the Fifteenth Congressional District, was awarded a nearly $150,000 Department of Energy (DOE) grant for small businesses to develop clean energy technologies. The grant will enable the development of a system that will synergistically capture carbon and treat wastewater at power plants, leading to a higher water recovery while problematic water is treated using less energy.

Congress passed the first national Mother's Day resolution in 1914, memorializing Mother's Day in the United States. This holiday recognizes the powerful contributions that women and mothers continue to make in America and across the world.
