Mother's Day is a time to celebrate and recognize the women in our lives whose selfless devotion helped us grow and thrive. It is a time to honor the mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and motherly figures that sacrifice so much for the betterment of their children and families every day.

Congress passed the first national Mother's Day resolution in 1914, memorializing Mother's Day in the United States. This holiday recognizes the powerful contributions that women and mothers continue to make in America and across the world.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15) participated in the first House hearing on the Boston bombings, held by the Committee on Homeland Security, to begin answering questions prompted by the attack, evaluate our emergency response efforts and learn how we can better prepare for a similar attack. Witnesses at the hearing were former Senator Joe Lieberman, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security Undersecretary Kurt Schwartz and former Department of Homeland Security official Erroll Southers.

Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-Dublin) spent his first days on Capitol Hill as an unpaid summer intern for then Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher, where he answered phone calls, responded to constituents' mail and gave tours to visiting Tri-Valley tourists. He also realized early on the importance of learning the names and memorizing the faces of those serving in Congress, and he continues to do so today.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today spoke on the House Floor in opposition to H.R. 1406, the so-called Working Families Flexibility Act, which in reality undermines American workers and harms the middle class. This bill severely weakens the right of wage workers to overtime pay. That pay would instead go into an employer-controlled pot to be paid out at the end of the year or used as comp time by the employee. This would shift power to employers who could then deny overtime assignments to workers who insist on overtime pay.

Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) will join Swalwell in seeking passage of H.R. 952, dubbed the Main Street Revival Act.

The bill, introduced by Swalwell in March, aims to speed up local economic development and energize small businesses to open their doors in economically-depressed neighborhoods by relieving them of some start-up costs.

The freshman California Democrat and former college soccer player was playing goalie at the first Capital Soccer Classic on Wednesday, and Rep. Chris Van Hollen, a veteran Marylander widely considered a potential future speaker of the House, was on the spot.

"I told him right before he took the kick, ‘Sir, you're in leadership, but I hate losing,'" Swalwell told POLITICO.
