WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representatives Eric Swalwell (CA-15) and Zoe Lofgren (CA-19) applaud the decision of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) to remove a provision in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would cut funding and reduce academic access to the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and the Z-machine at Sandia National Laboratories. An amendment to restore access and funding was led by HASC members Representatives Loretta Sanchez and John Garamendi.

Boor will be the new Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Oakland Regional Office. Ms. Boor was most recently the Assistant Director of the VA Seattle Regional Office.

SAN JOSE, CA – Following a tour of the Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) perimeter, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today called for pilot programs to test various technologies to determine the best, most cost-effective methods to secure airport perimeters. Swalwell is the only Northern California member of the Homeland Security Committee. On April 20, a teenager flew from SJC to Hawaii in the wheel well of a Hawaiian Airlines flight after he trespassed undetected.

HAYWARD, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15), member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation Security, today requested that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) issue an updated assessment of our nation's airport perimeter security needs. The last report GAO issued evaluating airport perimeter security was published in 2009.

On April 20, a 16-year-old flew from Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) to Kahului Airport in Maui in the wheel well of a Hawaiian Airlines flight after having climbed a perimeter fence at SJC undetected.

"While I appreciate the work of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission on behalf of human rights around the world, I am concerned about the timing of today's hearing. We must never let the cause of human rights, which should be universal, be negatively affected by partisan, ideological, or religious divisions."

WASHINGTON, DC – Today on the House Floor, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) remembered Lance Corporal Andrew Silva of Union City, which is located in the Congressman's district. Lance Corporal Silva was killed just over one month after returning home from serving in Afghanistan.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced that his bill, H.R. 3771, the Philippines Charitable Giving Assistance Act, was signed into law by President Obama. This law will help incentivize contributions to Typhoon Haiyan relief in the Philippines. The law was co-led in the House of Representatives by Reps. Mike Thompson (D-CA), Joe Heck (R-NV), and Darrell Issa (R-CA). He is the seventh first-term Member to have a bill signed into law in the 113th Congress.

HAYWARD, CA -- U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15), Member of the Homeland Security Committee, today announced he is an original cosponsor of H.R. 4263, the Social Media Working Group Act of 2014. He introduced it with Reps. Susan W. Brooks (R-IN-5), Donald Payne (D-NJ-10), and Steven Palazzo (R-MS-4). The bipartisan bill expands both the membership and influence of the Department of Homeland Security's existing Virtual Social Media Working Group.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) offered a five-year anniversary tribute on the House Floor for fallen Oakland Police Department officers Sergeant Mark Dunakin, Sergeant Ervin Romans, Sergeant Daniel Sakai, and Officer John Hege. The officers were killed in the line of duty on Saturday, March 21, 2009.
