Rep. Swalwell Remembers Lance Corporal Andrew Silva of Union City

April 2, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – Today on the House Floor, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) remembered Lance Corporal Andrew Silva of Union City, which is located in the Congressman's district. Lance Corporal Silva was killed just over one month after returning home from serving in Afghanistan.

Below are the remarks as prepared for delivery.

"Today I rise to honor the life of 23-year-old Marine Lance Corporal Andrew Silva of Union City, California, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident on March 25th – just over one month after returning home from serving in Afghanistan.

"Lance Corporal Silva was a 2009 graduate of James Logan High School in Union City, where he played football.

"After high school, he joined the Marine Corps Reserves where he most recently served in a Combat Logistics Battalion based in San Jose.

"In February, Lance Corporal Silva returned from a deployment to Helmand Province in Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. "Although his life was cut far too short by a heartbreaking tragedy, Corporal Silva did what many do not – he answered the call of duty to serve in our nation's Armed Forces.

"Lance Corporal Silva's work as a Marine illustrates brightly the heroism of the service members in our military and their dedication to our country. His brave service will be remembered by a grateful nation.

"Lance Corporal Silva is survived by his wife and two-year-old son. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family. May he rest in peace."
