Swalwell Welcomes New Oakland VA Director, Recommits to Ending Claims Backlog

May 6, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) released the following statement after learning that Julianna M. Boor will be the new Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Oakland Regional Office. Ms. Boor was most recently the Assistant Director of the VA Seattle Regional Office.

"I welcome Julianna Boor to the Oakland VA Regional Office and look forward to working with her to ensure veterans receive the care they earned in a timely manner. The Oakland VA has consistently had one of the worst benefits claims backlogs in the nation. Until recently, veterans were waiting on average more than a year to have their benefits case resolved. This is unacceptable for our veterans who served their country honorably and deserve responsive care.

"When the previous Oakland VA director retired, I wrote VA Secretary Eric Shinseki calling for an experienced VA director with a proven record of success so we can finally end the shameful backlog. I look forward to working with Ms. Boor in my capacity as a Member of Congress so we can ensure we are serving our veterans as well as they have served our country."
