WASHINGTON, DC – H.R. 1671, a bill introduced by U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell to name the U.S. Post Office in Dublin, CA as the "James ‘Jim' Kohnen Post Office" passed the House of Representatives today by a vote of 398-0. Swalwell introduced the legislation to honor the life of Tri-Valley public servant and 30-year Army veteran Dr. Jim Kohnen. Dr. Kohnen passed away on May 29, 2012.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) introduced the bipartisan Widening Internet Readiness for Employment Development (WIRED) Act to assist the unemployed in finding jobs. The legislation would mandate that the Department of Labor (DOL) update One-Stop Career Center websites to dramatically improve information and job-seeking services online. The legislation was co-introduced by Republican Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08).

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today successfully passed an amendment in the Committee on Homeland Security to strengthen air travel security by providing incentives for countries to report data on lost and stolen travel documents. Swalwell's amendment to H.R. 3846, a bill regarding U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), would require the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to certify that countries participating in CBP's trusted traveler program routinely provide information on lost and stolen travel documents to the U.S.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15), lead Democrat on the Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittee on Energy, today requested a bill reading during consideration of the Department of Energy Research and Development Act of 2014, a Republican bill that drastically cuts DOE research programs, deemphasizes climate change research, and was only provided to Committee Democrats on Friday, June 6, at 5:30 PM. Rather than read the bill, the Republican majority abruptly ended the meeting without allowing debate or a vote on the bill.

HAYWARD, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today kicked off National Small Business Week by visiting five small businesses in downtown Hayward. This year marks the 51st anniversary of National Small Business Week, which recognizes the contributions of small businesses across the country.

During his tour, Swalwell visited The Book Shop, The Cupcake Shoppe (awarded the best cupcake in the Bay Area), Cyclepath Hayward, The Cobblers, and Caspers Hot Dogs.

An amendment to restore access and funding was led by HASC members Representatives Loretta Sanchez and John Garamendi.
