Swalwell Supports DHS Steps to Enhance International Aviation Security

July 2, 2014

DUBLIN, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15), a Member of the Homeland Security Transportation Security Subcommittee, released the following statement in response to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Jeh Johnson's announcement directing the TSA to implement enhanced security measures in the coming days at certain overseas airports with direct flights to the United States:

"Secretary Johnson's actions will help protect Americans against what continues to be the number one target of terrorists: airliners and the passengers who fly on them. I've been briefed by DHS about the latest intelligence and support the agency in its efforts to protect Americans. It's critical we be proactive, and I commend Secretary Johnson for taking these steps to protect the traveling public.

"I remain concerned, however, that until we ensure every international traveler's passport is checked against INTERPOL's Stolen and Lost Travel Documents (SLTD) database we remain vulnerable to a terrorist or criminal gaining access to an airliner. I will continue to work with the Committee to address this issue."
