WASHINGTON, DC – H.R. 3438, the National Laboratories Mean National Security Act, a bill introduced by U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15), today unanimously passed the House of Representatives. This bipartisan legislation will ensure the full resources of Department of Energy (DOE) labs, like Lawrence Livermore and Sandia in his congressional district, are readily available to help states and localities protect our country against terrorism. Currently, uncertainty in the law prevents such collaborations.

The Steering & Policy Committee sets the Democratic policy agenda and nominates Democratic Members for committee assignments.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) praised the announcement by Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz that Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Livermore, CA, which he represents, will partner with IBM to develop a new supercomputer that will be seven times faster than LLNL's current model.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today was elected by his colleagues to serve as Regional Whip in the upcoming 114th Congress for Region II, which is comprised of Northern California, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands.

The Regional Whip team works with Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer to build unity among House Democrats. Regional Whips are responsible for informing their regional colleagues about upcoming legislation and mobilizing votes. Swalwell served as Democratic Assistant Whip in the 113th Congress.

DUBLIN, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today joined the United States Postal Service (USPS) and members of the Dublin community to name the Dublin Post Office after the late Dr. James ‘Jim' Kohnen, a Tri-Valley public servant and Army veteran.

DUBLIN, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today hosted the inaugural meeting of his Veterans Advisory Commission. He was joined at the meeting by Julianna Boor, the newly appointed Director of the Oakland VA Regional Benefit Office. The Advisory Commission discussed the appeals process for benefits, ending the benefits backlog, and vocational programs offered by Oakland VA.

DALLAS, TX – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today participated in a House Homeland Security Committee field hearing on Ebola at the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) airport. Swalwell discussed with health officials how the federal government is working to control the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and prevent a serious outbreak in the United States. The Department of Homeland Security will be implementing enhanced security procedures at the five international airports in the U.S. that account for over 90% of travel to the U.S. from areas affected by Ebola.

HAYWARD, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced that the Alameda County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) will receive a nearly $1 million federal grant to expand the Cherryland-Ashland Beyond Project which enhances neighborhood safety. The grant was awarded by the Department of Justice's (DOJ) Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation program. Swalwell sent a letter to the DOJ supporting the ACSO's grant application.
