WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) praised the announcement by Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz that Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Livermore, CA, which he represents, will partner with IBM to develop a new supercomputer that will be seven times faster than LLNL's current model.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today was elected by his colleagues to serve as Regional Whip in the upcoming 114th Congress for Region II, which is comprised of Northern California, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands.

The Regional Whip team works with Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer to build unity among House Democrats. Regional Whips are responsible for informing their regional colleagues about upcoming legislation and mobilizing votes. Swalwell served as Democratic Assistant Whip in the 113th Congress.

DUBLIN, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today hosted the inaugural meeting of his Veterans Advisory Commission. He was joined at the meeting by Julianna Boor, the newly appointed Director of the Oakland VA Regional Benefit Office. The Advisory Commission discussed the appeals process for benefits, ending the benefits backlog, and vocational programs offered by Oakland VA.

DALLAS, TX – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today participated in a House Homeland Security Committee field hearing on Ebola at the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) airport. Swalwell discussed with health officials how the federal government is working to control the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and prevent a serious outbreak in the United States. The Department of Homeland Security will be implementing enhanced security procedures at the five international airports in the U.S. that account for over 90% of travel to the U.S. from areas affected by Ebola.

HAYWARD, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced that the Alameda County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) will receive a nearly $1 million federal grant to expand the Cherryland-Ashland Beyond Project which enhances neighborhood safety. The grant was awarded by the Department of Justice's (DOJ) Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation program. Swalwell sent a letter to the DOJ supporting the ACSO's grant application.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) sent a letter urging Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan to include salaries of the president and top three personnel at each university in the department's annual survey providing data on postsecondary education. A study by the Institute for Policy Studies found that executive pay for university presidents and student debt are closely related and should be addressed together.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) led a bipartisan group of 82 Members of Congress in sending a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry urging him to take swift action to expedite the safe transport of Americans out of the Cabo region and back to the United States. Hurricane Odile devastated the area Sunday evening, leaving over 10,000 Americans stranded without electricity, a dwindling food and water supply, and little to no ability to communicate with loved ones in the U.S.

HAYWARD, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) is continuing to offer help to constituents and their loved ones stranded in Cabo, Mexico due to Hurricane Odile. Since extending assistance on Facebook and Twitter Tuesday evening, Swalwell's office has helped more than 50 Americans contact the State Department, learn about humanitarian resources, and find out about airlifts out of the region.
