WASHINGTON, DC– A bipartisan bill sponsored by U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15), H.R. 1022, theSecuring Energy Critical Elements and American Jobs Act of 2014, failed to pass the U.S. House of Representatives today because of "scoring" threats and falsehoods made by extreme right-wing groups, Heritage Action and Club for Growth.Swalwell's bill would have stepped up America's exploration of critical elements, materials used to power cell phones, airplanes, and renewable energy technology.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today introduced an amendment to raise the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE) account by approximately $112 million, back to the FY 2014 level, and offsets the cost by reducing funding for fossil fuels. The EERE programs focus on renewable energy generation, sustainable transportation, and energy-saving homes, buildings, and manufacturing. The House was considering H.R. 4923, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2015.

McAllen, TX – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today toured a Texas detention facility where hundreds of unaccompanied minors crossing the border daily from Central America are detained and processed. He then participated in a Homeland Security Committee field hearing on the surge of children crossing the border and surrendering to border control agents where Texas Governor Rick Perry served as a witness.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today released the following statement praising Mineta San Jose Airport's (SJC) steps to improve its perimeter security following the April breach by a teenager who was later able to stowaway in an airplane undetected. Swalwell is the only Northern California Member of the Homeland Security Committee.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) questioned Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Jeh Johnson today in a hearing regarding the growing influx of unaccompanied children crossing the southwestern border expecting to find refuge in the United States from the economic instability and gang violence in their home countries of Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. Swalwell criticized our broken immigration system as contributing to confusion about our immigration policies.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced that his office has helped CA-15 veterans receive a total of more than $1 million in retroactive benefits such as disability payments from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Benefits Administration since January 2013. This represents benefits the veterans earned but were overdue in receiving from the VA.

WASHINGTON, DC – H.R. 1671, a bill introduced by U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell to name the U.S. Post Office in Dublin, CA as the "James ‘Jim' Kohnen Post Office" passed the House of Representatives today by a vote of 398-0. Swalwell introduced the legislation to honor the life of Tri-Valley public servant and 30-year Army veteran Dr. Jim Kohnen. Dr. Kohnen passed away on May 29, 2012.
