Swalwell, USPS, Name Dublin Post Office after Dr. Jim Kohnen
DUBLIN, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today joined the United States Postal Service (USPS) and members of the Dublin community to name the Dublin Post Office after the late Dr. James ‘Jim' Kohnen, a Tri-Valley public servant and Army veteran.
"Jim was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word," said Swalwell. "Our Dublin community misses him deeply, and this post office serves as a reminder of his legacy of public service. The presence of so many community members and fellow public servants at today's dedication is a reflection of his selfless character, and I know Jim would have been humbled and honored by the event. It was my pleasure to have sponsored the legislation that made this post office naming a reality."
Swalwell introduced H.R. 1671 to name the Dublin Post Office for Dr. Kohnen in April 2013. His bill was signed into law by President Obama in August 2014.
"My family and I are touched by the dedication of the Dublin Post Office to Jim," said Pat Kohnen, wife of the late Dr. Kohnen. "He loved his community, and it is wonderful that this post office now bears his name. We are grateful to Congressman Swalwell for honoring Jim with this lovely tribute."
"The dedication of a Post Office building in the memory of a local citizen is a fitting tribute because a Post Office, like the mail that runs through it, binds this nation together," said USPS Bay-Valley District Manager Mark Martinez. "And, like Dr. Jim Kohnen's character, this Post Office exudes a strong and functional purpose of strength and unity within the community and across our nation."
