WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15), along with Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA), today introduced the Consumer Review Freedom Act to make it illegal for businesses to penalize customers who write negative reviews on Yelp or other online review sites. The bill was motivated by several examples of companies attempting to dissuade people from writing honest reviews by slipping non-disparagement clauses in their consumer contracts.

HAYWARD, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced the Hayward Fire Department received a $614,453 federal grant to purchase safety equipment. The funding came from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Swalwell, a member of the Committee on Homeland Security, wrote to FEMA in support of the grant for the Hayward Fire Department.

DUBLIN, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) announced that H.R. 1671, his bill to rename the U.S. Post Office in Dublin, CA for Tri-Valley public servant and 30-year Army veteran Dr. Jim Kohnen, passed the Senate and was signed-into law by President Obama. Dr. Kohnen passed away on May 29, 2012. This is Swalwell's second bill to be signed into law, the most of any first-term Member of the House of Representatives.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced that the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) System was awarded a FY14 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) transportation security grant of $17.4 million to secure the Transbay Tube that connects the East Bay and San Francisco against a potential terrorist attack. Swalwell, a member of the Homeland Security Transportation Security Subcommittee, led a letter to DHS urging support for BART's request for transit security funding.
