Democratic leaders made the right call on making a deal with President Donald Trump on the debt ceiling and providing recovery funding for Harvey victims, said Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., Friday.

"It was the right thing to do. We have to pay our bills, keep the government open and provide relief to those that were in Harvey's way," Swalwell said Friday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

Working with Trump provides "leverage" so Democrats can get other goals accomplished, the congressman said

He began the session with a touch of humor, noting that upon the birth of his son, "We got the cutest baby monitor from the Russian Ambassador."

CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. (KTVU) - An East Bay Congressman took his town hall to this hills- hiking with constituents and answering questions.

Alameda County Representative Eric Swalwell led a group of about 100 hikers along a 2-mile hike at the Lake Chabot Regional Park.

Constituents showed up with a lot of questions on a wide variety of topics. The Congressman said Washington is consumed with the latest reports of missile tests in North Korea, Russian sanctions, and chaos in the White House, but Swalwell says voters are still deeply concerned with local issues.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representatives Eric Swalwell (D-CA), Richard Hudson (R-NC), and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) today introduced the bipartisan Widening Internet Readiness for Employment Development (WIRED) Act to help students, veterans, the unemployed, and the underemployed in their job searches.

This bill directs the Department of Labor (DOL) to create guidelines for One-Stop Career Center websites – many of which are clunky and outdated – to dramatically improve their design and offer job-seeking services online.

WASHINGTON, DC – Responding to a bipartisan request from House Sharing Economy Caucus co-chairs Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and Darrell Issa (R-CA), the General Services Administration (GSA) has agreed to advise federal agencies that employees’ use of transportation network companies (TNCs) – often called ridesharing companies – is a permitted, reimbursable expense.

In a letter to the lawmakers, the GSA indicated it will issue a Federal Travel Regulation bulletin reminding agencies that they can let employees use ridesharing companies while on official business.
