The letter was sent to House leadership and reaffirms the country's promise to our seniors to preserve Social Security and Medicare, recognizes that both revenue and spending must be part of any solution, and calls on both parties to work together in the nation's interest.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) applauded the introduction in the House of the Assault Weapons Ban, of which he is an original cosponsor, to ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition feeding devices. Swalwell agreed to cosponsor the bill in December and has been working since then at the request of its House sponsor, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), to encourage fellow new Members of Congress to lend their support as well.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Dublin) sponsored the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act and called for swift action on the legislation Wednesday.
The act was originally passed in 1994 and expired in 2011. It funds a number of programs, including victim assistance services, enforcement of protection and transitional housing aid for victims.

This bill is essentially the same as the reauthorization that passed the Senate last Congress on a bipartisan basis, but was not considered by the House.

The Ranking Member serves as the lead minority party member on a committee, and Swalwell will be one of the few first-term Members in either party to be a Ranking Member on any committee in Congress.
