WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today was appointed by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to serve as Vice Chair of the House Democratic Steering & Policy Committee. The Steering & Policy Committee sets the Democratic policy agenda and nominates Democratic Members for committee assignments; Pelosi named Swalwell to the committee in November 2014.

PLEASANTON, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) announced today that Josh Richman will be joining his office as communications director. Josh was previously a reporter for the Bay Area News Group covering state and federal politics. He is taking over the communications role for Allison Bormel, who is joining the Obama Administration as a senior communications advisor.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House of Representatives today approved the "Tracking Foreign Fighters in Terrorist Safe Havens Act" (H.R. 4239) which was introduced last week by House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence members Eric Swalwell (CA-15) and Frank LoBiondo (NJ-02) to ensure greater oversight by Congress over the intelligence agencies. The vote to pass the bill was unanimous.

WASHINGTON, DC – A provision championed by U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) was included in H.R. 4127, the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016 that passed the House of Representatives today with strong bipartisan support. This provision ensures that Department of Energy (DOE) National Labs are clearly available to work with recipients of federal homeland security grants such as state and local governments. Swalwell is a member of the House Intelligence Committee and represents Lawrence Livermore and Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) introduced the Start-Up America's Students Act, a bill that would create a competitive grant program to establish, expand, or improve business incubators operated by or affiliated with universities and colleges. Swalwell is the chair of the Future Forum, a group of the youngest Democratic Members of Congress focused on issues and opportunities for millennial Americans. Future Forum members Derek Kilmer (D-WA), Patrick Murphy (D-FL), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), and Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) joined as original cosponsors.

WASHINGTON, DC – In a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Jeh Johnson, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) requested an update on DHS actions to address possible gaps in immigration enforcement demonstrated by the tragic murder of Kate Steinle in July. Kate's family resides in Pleasanton, CA, a city located in Swalwell's congressional district. Swalwell served on the House Homeland Security Committee in his first term in Congress.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) offered a bipartisan amendment to the DRIVE Act (the transportation bill) to make it easier for public entities to take advantage of innovative technologies like car sharing, bike sharing, and transportation network companies to improve mobility and air quality. Swalwell led the amendment with Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ), which was not adopted with a vote of 181-237. Swalwell is the co-chair of the Congressional Sharing Economy Caucus.
