WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15), the Ranking Member of the CIA Subcommittee of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and Rep. Elijah Cummings (MD-07), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, are reintroducing their Protecting Our Democracy Act to establish an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate foreign interference in the 2016 election.

"The Washington Post's revelation that the CIA has concluded Russia intervened in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump win the presidency, rather than just to undermine confidence in the U.S. electoral system, is deeply troubling and warrants further inquiry. If true, it's a direct attack aimed at helping one preferred candidate over another – and we must know exactly what happened so that we can decide how to prevent it from ever happening again.
