Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today introduced H.R. 2082, the STEM K to Career Act to create a ladder to success for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) students and professionals across the country. The legislation would offer federal student loan relief to STEM teachers, provide tax credits to certain employers that provide internships or apprenticeships in the STEM field, and amend the federal Work Study program to offer more STEM opportunities.

I spent this past Easter Sunday in Iraq, having brunch with our troops serving in the mission to defeat ISIL. The multiday trip was my first to this war-ravaged country. However, most of the service members I had the honor of meeting have come accustomed to spending Easter and most other holidays in a place with awfully dim prospects for peace and security.

NEW YORK — On a Thursday evening earlier this month, a group of Democratic lawmakers entrusted with a big chunk of the party’s future mingled with well-dressed young professionals in an industrial-chic space in Manhattan, drinking glasses of wine and Mason jars of water infused with strawberries or cucumbers.

The New Yorkers were eager to interact with the four Democrats — three of whom are not much older than the millennial-aged crowd of entrepreneurs, investors and innovators in attendance.

Today's hearing confirmed Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Office of Inspector General report that over 14,000 informal claims went unprocessed by VA staff.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) introduced the Future Forum, a group of 14 young Democratic Members of Congress focused on issues and opportunities for millennial Americans.

Members of the Future Forum begin a national listening tour today with stops in New York City, Boston, and San Francisco, with more cities to follow in the months ahead. They will hold town hall meetings, take part in roundtables, and participate in tours with young Americans at colleges, start-ups, and established companies.

In Iraq, Swalwell was briefed by senior military officials on Operation Inherent Resolve (to degrade the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant's (ISIL) capabilities). He met with Iraqi Vice President Ayad Allawi. Swalwell also attended Easter Sunday service and brunch with enlisted troops.

The arrest of a woman found wandering the grounds of Mineta San Jose Airport International Airport — the fifth breach there in the past year — is proof that its perimeter fence must be outfitted with live sensors, a Bay Area congressman said Wednesday.

The fact that people are repeatedly scaling the fence erodes the public's confidence in the airport's security, said Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Dublin, who questioned whether publicity of each incident has spurred people to act.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressmen Eric Swalwell (CA-15), Steve Cohen (TN-09), and Danny Davis (IL-07) today introduced legislation to restore fairness in student lending by treating privately issued student loans the same as other types of private debt in bankruptcy. Until 2005, this type of student loan debt was dischargeable in bankruptcy, but a change to the bankruptcy code made that year removed this consumer protection. Student loan debt now outstrips both auto loans and credit card debt as the largest form of non-mortgage consumer debt.
