Robert Menendez (D-NJ) reintroduced the Journalist Protection Act to make a federal crime of certain attacks on those reporting the news. WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15) has re-introduced a bill to help protect domestic violence victims from being murdered with guns.

H.R. 1287, the No Guns for Abusers Act, would require the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to report to Congress on the best practices that jurisdictions should use to require anyone charged with or convicted of a domestic violence crime, or subject to a domestic violence protective order, to relinquish all their firearms.

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15) on Wednesday was named chair of the Intelligence Modernization and Readiness Subcommittee of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

The subcommittee was created as part of a complete reorganization of the committee's structure for this 116th Congress, so that subcommittees will be more focused on the Intelligence Community's core missions than specific agencies.

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced he will bring Cameron Kasky, a student activist and survivor of the February 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Fla., as his guest to the 2019 State of the Union address on Tuesday, February 5.

Kasky, 18, co-founded the student-led Gun Violence Prevention advocacy group Never Again MSD, and helped organize the March for Our Lives nationwide student protest in March 2018.

Ahead of next week's State of the Union address, Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California announced Friday that he invited one of the students who survived the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, as his guest for the event.
Eighteen-year-old Cameron Kasky has been one of the most vocal and visible student survivors who played a key role in organizing the March for Our Lives protest last year.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09), Danny Davis (IL-07) and Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today introduced the Private Student Loan Bankruptcy Fairness Act. This legislation would restore fairness in student lending by treating privately issued student loans the same as other types of private debt are treated in bankruptcy. Until 2005, this type of student loan debt was dischargeable in bankruptcy, but a change to the bankruptcy code that year removed that consumer protection.
