Over five million renters in California are rent-burdened, meaning they spend more than 30 percent of their income on rent, while homeownership remains out of reach for many families. Additionally, the Bay Area is one of the most expensive property markets in the United States, with single-family homes selling for about three times the national average. The state's housing market has led to increased homelessness and a shortage of affordable housing. up prices for first-time homebuyers, rising prices have contributed to increased homelessness and a shortage of affordable housing.

As a former Alameda County prosecutor, I know first-hand how dangerous our communities can be and the importance of keeping Americans safe. I spent seven years fighting to make sure that those who violated the law were punished, and I have now brought that spirit to Congress. The federal government should be both addressing regional and national crime issues and supporting state and local law enforcement with the resources they need to protect our streets.

One of my biggest priorities in Congress is reducing travel time for commuters in California's 14th District. With increasing housing costs, the number of East Bay commuters whose journey to and from work takes 90 minutes or more in each direction is drastically increasing. We must do all that we can to minimize traffic congestion to help improve people’s lives and reduce our climate impact.
