WASHINGTON, D.C. — Despite a backlash from the air travel community and the pleas of Democratic lawmakers during a hearing in Washington today, the chief of the Transportation Security Administration said he will not voluntarily reverse his decision allowing small knives on airliners.

"Somebody's got to make the decision," TSA Administrator John Pistole told reporters following a hearing of the House Homeland Security Committee's transportation subcommittee.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today questioned Transportation Security Agency (TSA) Administrator John Pistole in a hearing of the Homeland Security Transportation Security Subcommittee. Swalwell objected to TSA's new policy to allow certain knives and sports equipment on-board planes, arguing it could put passengers and crew at serious risk.

Three members of the House homeland security committee formally objected on Monday to the Transportation Security Administration's controversial decision to lift a ban on small knives and certain sports equipment on board airplanes.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security and Michael Grimm (R-NY) announced that they will be sending a bipartisan letter to John S. Pistole, Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), raising serious objections regarding his recent decision and announcement that TSA will start to allow passengers to bring knives and certain sports equipment onboard airplanes.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee recommended to the full House Democratic Caucus that Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) be added to the House Committee on Homeland Security for the 113th Congress. He already serves on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.
