Swalwell Visits India to Promote Shared Democratic Values
WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) returned home following a trip to India following the celebration of 75 years of relations between the United States and India. The Bay Area, which includes Swalwell's district, has one of the largest Indian-American populations in the United States.
During the trip, Swalwell met with India's Foreign Secretary, Vinay Kwatra, to discuss ways to counter China's economic practices and how, as the world's oldest and largest democracies, the two countries can work together to promote a more peaceful and prosperous world.
"As the co-chair of the Critical Materials Caucus, I'm focused on how we must reduce our dependence on China for the production of critical materials, including rare earth elements. Just like the United States, India is working to reduce its reliance on China for critical materials and is an instrumental partner in the production of rare earth elements, including nickel and cobalt. I look forward to working with India on rare earth production and manufacturing to bolster our national security and grow our renewable energy economy," said Swalwell.
