Swalwell Statement on Senate Impeachment Vote

February 5, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and of the House Committee on the Judiciary, issued the following statement today:

"Donald Trump put his personal interests over our national security and the integrity of our elections. No rigged trial—orchestrated by Trump and the jury foreperson, Leader Mitch McConnell— changes the permanent stain of impeachment on Trump's presidency.

Impeaching Donald Trump ensured we held a corrupt president accountable and set a standard future presidents should be held to. But I also learned that standing up to Trump—from the courageous public servants who did so to my colleagues in Congress—stops his corruption. Ukraine didn't get their aid until we started an investigation. We must continue to check him whenever he acts corruptly."
