Swalwell Statement on House Intelligence Committee's Draft Report Regarding Impeachment Inquiry

December 3, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and of the House Committee on the Judiciary, issued the following statement Tuesday:

"The Intelligence Committee report sums up what the entire nation saw in live testimony: Donald J. Trump abused the power of the presidency and your taxpayer dollars — $391 million in military aid — to pressure a desperate ally to manufacture dirt on his political opponent. He put his own interests above our national security, and has obstructed efforts to expose this by ignoring lawful subpoenas and preventing certain witnesses from testifying. There has been no plausible defense; assessing what happened here is a matter of plain facts and common sense. As a former prosecutor, this might be one of the clearest-cut cases I've ever seen. The Intelligence Committee will send this overwhelming evidence to the Judiciary Committee, on which I also serve, where we will determine whether and how to draft appropriate articles of impeachment."
