Swalwell’s Statement on Presidential Election
PLEASANTON, CA – Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15) issued the following statement on the election of Donald J. Trump as 45th President of the United States:
“Americans have had their say, and now we must expect Donald Trump to be a President for all Americans.
“I’ll return to Congress next year with an open mind, ready to fight for the issues and policies on which we and the White House can cooperate.
“If Donald Trump is willing to be open-minded, we will find a way forward that lifts all Americans. However, if he makes good on his promise to reverse America’s progress in opportunity and equality, he will find in me the stiffest of opposition.
“I cannot stand for any President that judges Americans by their religion, national origin, gender, or orientation. We cannot set the clock back on civil rights and basic human decency.
“I will not stand quietly by while millions of Americans lose health insurance without any alternative to make it affordable or accessible, especially for anyone with a pre-existing condition. And I will not let higher education become a privilege only for the wealthy.
“In my service to my district, I will continue to put working Americans first and foremost, by finding ways that we can all move ahead together – never by turning us against each other.
“While this election has opened deep divisions among us, it is now time to come together, as one nation, and work for the benefit of all Americans. I hope and expect that President-elect Trump and all of our elected leaders will rise to that occasion.”
