Swalwell Joins Pro-Choice Caucus

January 18, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) joined the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus. This caucus works to protect women's reproductive health rights and reduce the number of unintended pregnancies.

"I am a strong supporter of women's rights and the ability of women to make their own healthcare decisions, and I am proud to join the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus," said Swalwell. "During my public service, I have always worked to protect women's access to full healthcare and family planning, and I will continue to do so as a Member of Congress."

"Deciding when to start a family is one of the most personal decisions a woman can make," continued Swalwell. "I believe women can make such decisions on their own, without government interference. And, they must be provided access to a full panoply of health care options, including contraceptive and reproductive services. To do otherwise would be to deny to half the population medical care simply because of their gender."

"The Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus is proud to welcome Congressman Eric Swalwell, a dedicated advocate and a strong voice for women's health," said Pro-Choice Caucus Co-Chairs Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-CO). "In the face of a House Majority that has consistently voted to take away a woman's right to her own health decisions, vowed to repeal women's health advances in the health care reform law, and even refused to reauthorize a Violence Against Women Act inclusive of protections for all victims of domestic violence, we need members of Congress like Eric Swalwell to stand up and fight for women's health."
