Swalwell Elected Co-Chair of Democratic Steering and Policy Committee
WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15) joined House senior leadership on Friday when House Democrats named him co-chair of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
“I’m humbled that my colleagues have elected me co-chair of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, which sets our policy agenda and makes committee assignments,” Swalwell said. Swalwell, 36, is the youngest person to ever hold that post.
“I’m eager to take on this responsibility, in fulfillment of my promise to bring new ideas and energy to Washington. The real winners of today’s contest are the people I represent in the East Bay – my home, my neighbors, my friends who have entrusted me with their representation – who will benefit with their representative in senior leadership.”
Swalwell was nominated to this post by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, who earlier had named him to the committee in November 2014 and had elevated him to vice chair in February 2016.
Swalwell was re-elected last month to his third term. At Pelosi’s direction, Swalwell in 2015 founded Future Forum – a group of young Democratic Members, numbering 25 in the upcoming 115th Congress, focused upon listening to and engaging with millennials on the issues most important to that generation. Swalwell and other Future Forum members have visited 32 cities to hear millennials’ concerns, and have introduced bills to address them.
