CASTRO VALLEY, CA – Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15), the Ranking Member of the CIA Subcommittee of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement Monday:

“I’m concerned by reports that President Trump disclosed highly classified intelligence to Russian diplomats at the White House.

“The cost of President Trump's ties to Russia cannot be our national security. If the reports are true, the President shared highly sensitive national security secrets with a foreign adversary, possibly putting American lives at risk. Our international partners must be able to trust us as we work to fight terror, and the President appears to have betrayed that trust.

“Congress is not powerless to protect the American people from the President. We must act quickly to pass H.R. 356, the Protecting Our Democracy Act, to create a bipartisan-appointed, independent commission to investigate the President's ties to Russia during Russia's interference into the 2016 campaign. The sooner we do, the safer our nation will be.”
