Swalwell Bill Included in House Passed FAA Reauthorization
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) applauded the inclusion of his bill, which would prohibit purchases of rail cars or buses manufactured by Chinese companies, into the House passage of H.R. 3935, the Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act -- commonly known as the FAA Reauthorization. This key provision importantly closes existing loopholes in law which only prohibit purchases of Chinese-manufactured products within the Federal Transit Authority, leaving out the remainder of jurisdictions within the Federal Aviation Administration.
"We must ensure that U.S. tax dollars are being invested in American businesses, technologies, and workers," said Swalwell. "Chinese bus Original Equipment Manufacturers allow China specialized access and a position of leverage over global supply chains, technology flows, and, ultimately, data, which presents a risk to our national security. I’m pleased to see my initiative included in final passage of the FAA Reauthorization so we can help ensure that Chinese companies do not undercut American competitors.”
Congressman Swalwell was proud to support the passage of H.R. 2935, legislation that authorizes federal funding in our transportation sector for another five years to bolster flight programs, improve the safety of aircraft maintenance and operations, and safeguard the aviation workforce. This legislation passed the House by a strong bipartisan vote of 351-69 and now goes to the Senate for consideration.
