Swalwell Announces 2022 Congressional Art Competition Winner

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) announced the 2022 Congressional Art Competition winners for California District 15. Twenty-six students from 12 schools across the district participated in this year's competition. Melody Serena Zhang, a junior at Fremont Christian School is the first-place winner and will have her painting displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

"The quality of artwork submitted for this year's Congressional Art Competition shows how many outstanding young artists are in our region, and I'm proud to recognize their work," said Swalwell. "I'm grateful to all of the students, teachers and judges who made this competition possible, and I look forward to passing Melody's artwork on my way to vote."

The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in California's 15th Congressional District. Since its creation in 1982, over 650,000 high school students have been involved in the nationwide competition.

The U.S. Capitol exhibit in Washington will also include artwork from other contest winners across the country. The second-place winning artwork will hang in Representative Swalwell's DC office and the third-place winning piece will hang in Representative Swalwell's Castro Valley office. Submissions were judged by a panel of local art commissioners and art professors.
