Rep. Swalwell Spends the Morning as a Park Ranger at Chabot Regional Park

April 1, 2013

CASTRO VALLEY, CA – Today, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) put on his hiking boots to work as a park ranger as part of his monthly "In your Shoes" event. Swalwell joined a park ranger for his daily duties at Chabot Regional Park in Castro Valley, which is located in California's 15th Congressional District.

"Chabot Park is one of the East Bay's gems and I appreciate the rangers work to maintain and protect the park which is enjoyed by families throughout the area," said Swalwell. "These β€˜In Your Shoes' events open my eyes to the daily challenges and concerns of my constituents and how I can better serve them."

While touring the park with Ranger Troy Schwenk, Swalwell learned about the daily responsibilities of a park ranger and the recent improvements to Chabot Regional Park to make it more accessible for people with disabilities. Swalwell drove the park tractor to survey the environment and make sure the areas were clean and safe for visitors.

Swalwell's monthly "In your Shoes" events allow him to connect with constituents in their daily lives by taking on their job for a short time. Since taking office in January he has performed the jobs of a paramedic and an employee on an assembly line manufacturing LED light fixtures.
