Rep. Swalwell Holds Town Hall on Government Shutdown with more than 150 Constituents

October 7, 2013

DUBLIN, CA – With Congress adjourned on Sunday, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) flew home and hosted a town hall in Dublin to provide an update on the reckless federal government shutdown and hear from constituents. The town hall was held at the Dublin City Council Chambers and was attended by more than 150 concerned East Bay constituents, including many furloughed federal employees.

"The message from my constituents is loud and clear. It's time for Speaker John Boehner to bring a funding bill to the floor to reopen the entire government," said Rep. Swalwell. "Several furloughed federal workers at the town hall described the significant stress they are under because of the shutdown, with real fears that they will not be able to pay their bills this month. Speaker Boehner is all that stands in the way of ending the damaging shutdown. Enough is enough with the political games – we must turn on the lights of the government of the greatest democracy in the world."

Rep. Swalwell joined 199 Democrats to send a letter to House Speaker Boehner on Saturday demanding a vote on a piece of legislation that would end the shutdown and fund the government.
