Rep. Swalwell Announces Grant to Help East Bay Manufacturers Grow and Create Jobs

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today announced that the Corporation for Manufacturing Excellence (Manex), located in San Ramon, California, will receive a $125,000 grant from the Department of Commerce to continue its work helping East Bay biotech manufacturing companies implement innovative business practices to increase productivity, quality and profitability. Companies that invest one dollar into projects recommended by Manex historically realize a savings of six dollars on average. Manex is part of the East Bay Biomedical Manufacturing Network which is receiving a three-year $2.2 million grant focused on biomedical manufacturing in the region.

"Manufacturing is a bright spot in our economy, and Manex plays an important role helping East Bay manufacturers reduce costs, increase revenue and develop a strong workforce, creating more jobs here at home even in a competitive global environment," said Rep. Swalwell "I congratulate Manex on receiving this federal grant, which represents an investment in the future of our country. Manex, a private non-profit corporation, was established in 1995 to provide growth services to small and mid-size manufacturers in Northern California. It operates through a cooperative agreement with the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), under the Department of Commerce.
