Bipartisan Bet: Swalwell throws down gauntlet to NC GOP Rep. on Niners Game (VIDEO)

January 10, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) challenged fellow freshman Congressman Robert Pittenger (R-NC) to a wager on Sunday's NFC game between the San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers. Swalwell will provide Pittenger's office with wine from the Livermore Valley if the Panthers win; if the 49ers are victorious Swalwell's office will receive famous Carolina barbecue.

"I have great respect for my colleague across the aisle, Robert Pittenger, who I have worked with on a number of bipartisan issues," said Swalwell. "But the cooperation stops there. This is the NFL playoffs. And while I will work across the aisle, I will not work across the NFC. My staff and I look forward to enjoying some Carolina BBQ next week after Colin Kaepernick and Vernon Davis destroy Cam Newton and his Panthers. Go Niners!"

"My good friend Congressman Swalwell has graciously offered to send me California wine when the Carolina Panthers soundly defeat the San Francisco 49ers and advance to the NFC Championship," said Pittenger. "To make the wager fair, I have agreed to send Mr. Swalwell delicious North Carolina barbeque should the Panthers lose, but I don't expect that to be necessary."
