Honoring a Historic Majority

Dear Friend,

Yesterday, I was sworn in for my fourth term representing California's 15th Congressional District. I'm deeply honored by your trust in me, and I believe great things lie ahead.

It was a striking scene on the House Floor as the 116th Congress began. This is the most diverse Congress in U.S. history – younger, with more women and people of color – meaning the House looks more like America than ever before. And Nancy Pelosi regained her Speaker's gavel, making history once again – still the only woman to hold the post, and the sixth person ever picked as Speaker in nonconsecutive terms.

Though my daughter, Cricket, is only two months old, I couldn't resist the opportunity to bring her onto the Floor with me. I hope she'll see the photos someday, know that she was present for a truly historic day, and realize that her freedom to dream and achieve a big, bright future is boundless.

With this diverse majority, we will work hard to protect your paychecks, your healthcare and your democracy. We will collaborate across the aisle on the issues we agree upon: an infrastructure package that rebuilds our nation's bones while putting Americans to work; protection for Dreamers; and controlling the price of prescription medicine. We will pass legislation to curb the influence of money in politics and expand voting rights. We will pass legislation to reduce gun violence.

And we will fulfill our constitutional duty to oversee and investigate the Executive Branch. The days of a free pass for the White House are over – nobody is above the law, and Americans deserve to know that their interests are being protected.

Through all of this, my staff and I will be here for you. Please visit my website or contact my East Bay office at 510-370-3322 if we can be of service in any way. To stay connected, join me on Twitter @RepSwalwell and Facebook.

Sincerely,

Eric Swalwell
Member of Congress
