Ah, so THAT'S how it looks from up there!

Dear Friend,

This morning, for the first time, I had the honor of gaveling in and serving as the Speaker pro tempore of the House of Representatives. As I stood behind the Speaker's rostrum – a few feet from where Presidents, Speakers and world leaders have addressed our most pressing issues since 1857 – I presided over this morning's business, and listened to some of the youngest, most diverse Members of Congress in our nation's history bring new energy and new ideas to the House Floor, advancing our agenda for the people.

This week, House Democrats passed three new spending bills to reopen parts of the federal government – on top of a six bill package passed last week – to fulfill our obligation to the American people. This legislation will put our federal employees back to work, and ensure important nutrition assistance programs, fair housing programs and farm subsidies are maintained for our neighbors who rely on these services.

In this spirit, House Democrats will continue working hard to protect your paychecks, your healthcare and our democracy. We will collaborate across the aisle on the issues we agree upon: an infrastructure package, protection for Dreamers, and lowering the price of prescription medicine. We will pass legislation to curb the influence of money in politics and expand voting rights. We will pass legislation to reduce gun violence. And, we will fulfill our constitutional duty to oversee and investigate the Executive Branch.

As always, I am honored to represent you in Washington, DC, where I remain committed to go big, be bold, and do good to ensure every American has the freedom to dream.

Through all of this, my staff and I will be here for you. Please visit my website or contact my East Bay office at (510) 370-3322 if we can be of service in any way. To stay connected, join me on Twitter @RepSwalwell, and Facebook.

Sincerely,

Eric Swalwell
Member of Congress
