Rep. Swalwell Visits with Las Positas College Class via Skype

April 25, 2013
WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) launched "Congress in your Classroom" by video-conferencing into an Introduction to Sociology class taught by Hayward City Councilman Mark Salinas at Las Positas College in Livermore. Swalwell discussed his role as a Congressman and took questions from the students during the Skype video conference.
"Although my job requires me to be in Washington DC during the week, with new technologies time and distance are no longer a hurdle for communicating with constituents at home," said Swalwell. "I enjoyed the opportunity to Skype with the students in Councilman Salinas' Sociology class at Las Positas College and was impressed with their questions about key policy issues."
"My students and I appreciated the opportunity to Skype with Rep. Swalwell and get an insider perspective about the workings of our federal government," said Councilman Salinas. "It was a valuable experience for my students to hear from a Member of Congress and get to ask him questions about the issues we are studying in the classroom."
This idea was born from Swalwell's "Mobile Congress" agenda to make Members of Congress more accessible to constituents, even when in Washington, DC. Swalwell will continue to visit with classrooms across the 15th Congressional District via Skype and in person. Teachers interested in inviting the Congressman to visit their classroom can call 925-460-5100 for more information.
