WASHINGTON, DC – The House Judiciary Committee voted unanimously Wednesday to advance the bipartisan Homicide Victims' Families Rights Act, a bill introduced by Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), to give more rights to the families of homicide victims in federal cases.

The committee's vote sends the bill to the House Floor for consideration.

Angel Turner still hopes to find justice in the 1997 slaying of her sister, Georgia Leah Moses. Moses—who would've turned 36 this year—was last seen alive at age 12, not far from her Santa Rosa, Calif. home; her strangled, decomposed body was found about a week later in a grove of trees off Highway 101 near Petaluma. The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office released a sketch of a man Moses was believed to be last seen with, but he was never identified and police never named a person of interest in the case.

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) today reintroduced the bipartisan Homicide Victims' Families Rights Act, to give more rights to the families of homicide victims in federal cases.

Swalwell and McCaul are both former prosecutors: Swalwell, who sits on the House Judiciary Committee, was an Alameda County (Calif.) deputy district attorney, while McCaul was a federal prosecutor and a Texas deputy attorney general.

Eric Swalwell (CA-15) led 105 members in sending a letter to House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy demanding he meet with Metropolitan Police Department Office Michael Fanone. Officer Fanone bravely defended the United States Capitol on January 6 and suffered severe injuries. The letter was sent to McCarthy during National Police Week, a time to celebrate the heroism of our law enforcement officers and commemorate those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
